TPDL 2027

Computer science and digital humanities, on an island in the Venetian lagoon.

  • San Servolo Island, Venice, Italy
  • 10 minutes by water bus from St Mark’s Square

About the conference

TPDL comes to Venice

TPDL is an international forum focused on digital libraries and their associated technical, practical and social issues. The series started in 1997 as the European Conference on Digital Libraries (ECDL) and took its current name in 2011.

The 31st edition takes place on San Servolo Island from 27 to 29 September 2027, together with ADBIS 2027. The University of Padua and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice organise the two conferences.

Venice suits a conference on digital libraries. The Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana grew from the manuscripts that Cardinal Bessarion gave to the Republic in 1468, and in the 1490s Aldus Manutius opened in the city the press that introduced italic type and pocket editions of the classics.

Two tracks

Two ways of studying digital libraries

TPDL 2027 has two submission tracks with the same deadlines. Interdisciplinary contributions that combine the perspectives of the two tracks are particularly encouraged.

Track 1

Computer Science Foundations for Digital Libraries

Methods, Systems, and Applications

This track explores the core computer science principles, methods, and technologies underpinning digital libraries. It covers advances in information retrieval, data management, and artificial intelligence, alongside system architectures for large-scale digital collections and practical applications in areas such as academic research and cultural heritage preservation.

Track 2

Digital Humanities and Digital Libraries

Collections, Methods, and Scholarship

This track explores the intersection of digital libraries and digital humanities: how digital collections enable new ways to study, interpret, and connect cultural sources. It welcomes work on humanities research methods, scholarly editions and annotations, and the design of digital library services that support research, collaboration, and access to cultural heritage.
