San Servolo Island
TPDL 2027 takes place in the congress centre of San Servolo, an island in the Venetian lagoon ten minutes by water bus from St Mark’s Square.
An island for the conference
For a thousand years San Servolo was a monastic seat. It later housed a psychiatric hospital, which closed after the reform of 1978.
Today the island hosts a congress centre, a residence, the San Servolo Insane Asylum Museum and Venice International University. Its park, one of the largest in Venice, keeps centuries-old trees and sculptures by contemporary artists.
The whole conference, from the sessions to the coffee breaks, stays on the island. Participants who sleep in the residence reach the rooms on foot.

Getting there
By water bus, train and plane
Water bus line 20 from San Zaccaria
ACTV line 20 leaves from the San Zaccaria stop, next to St Mark’s Square, and reaches San Servolo in about 10 minutes. Boats run every 20 to 40 minutes. Line 20 timetable (PDF)
From Venezia Santa Lucia station or Piazzale Roma
Take water bus line 1, 2, 4.1 or 5.1 to San Zaccaria and change to line 20. Venezia Santa Lucia serves the historic centre; Venezia Mestre serves the mainland.
From Venice Marco Polo airport
The Alilaguna boat goes to St Mark’s Square, a short walk from San Zaccaria. Alternatively, ATVO buses and ACTV bus 5 go to Piazzale Roma, where the water buses to San Zaccaria start.
Other airports
Treviso Canova is about 30 minutes from Venice by bus. Verona Catullo takes more than an hour by bus and train, Milan Malpensa more than two hours by train.
Directions from the San Servolo website and Venice International University. Check timetables and fares with ACTV before travelling.
